The Westar Prepaid Program lets you prepay for electricity before you use it - allowing you to pay how much you want, when you want, as long as a positive balance is kept on your account.
With Westar Prepaid, you receive daily alerts via text, email or phone message with your account balance. This allows you to customize a payment schedule that best fits your needs. To enroll in the program, an initial payment of $35 is required.
As a special offer, if you sign up today with this online offer, the $35 initial purchase will be waived and Westar will put an amount of $35 on your pre-pay account. Each time you make a payment, 30% of this payment will be applied to the initial amount, until it is fully paid off.
The Westar Prepaid Program
Westar Prepaid is available to the first 1,000 qualified customers. In order to participate, you must meet the following:
With a Westar Prepaid account, you are not required to pay a deposit. Additionally, if you are participating in the program and have your electrical service disconnected, you will be able to re-establish service for only $5 instead of the normal $20 fee.
Experience of other customers at utilities with similar programs indicates that this program may help you lower your electric use because you are more aware of it. When you set up a Westar Prepaid account, you will select an account balance at which you will begin to receive low balance notifications.
To establish your Westar Prepaid account, new customers need to have at least a $35 initial balance. You can choose to start with a larger amount to establish your initial balance. Again, deposits are not required. Please note that this is not an activation fee, but rather a credit that is applied to your account to be used against your actual consumption.
Existing customers with a traditional account may convert to Westar Prepaid billing at any time (as long as your outstanding balance is less than $750). Any deposits on your existing account will be credited toward account balances or to your Westar Prepaid account.
If your service was disconnected for non-payment, you may be required to agree to a specific dollar amount to be applied against your past-due balance and the reconnection fee, called debt recovery.
All payments from customers with an unpaid balance shall be split between the amount and the amount for future electric service. The percent of the split will be calculated based on the amount owing at the time the Westar Prepaid account is set up.
If you decide Westar Prepaid billing doesn't work for you, it's simple and easy to return to a traditional account at any time, although you will need to pay any required deposits.
Once an initial payment of at least $35 is made and applied to your account, you will have a credit balance of that amount, assuming there were no outstanding charges or fees. Westar will collect actual electric consumption on a nightly basis. The charge for usage from your credit balance plus the portion of your monthly basic service fee is deducted from your credit balance, which calculates your remaining balance. For example, on a given date if you begin with $35 and used $5 of electricity, your new credit balance is now $30.
Westar makes it easy and convenient to monitor both usage and credit balance through our online system at www.WestarEnergy.com (click on the MyUsage link), or by calling 855-STAR-ONE (855-782-7663) and following the instructions provided. You can also text BAL to 77407 to receive your current balance.
Additionally, when enrollment in the program occurs, you will be asked to provide up to two contact numbers and an email address to which calls, texts or emails will be sent regarding credit balance, applied payments, electric consumption and need for payment to avoid disconnection. This ensures that you will be able to monitor usage easily and efficiently and will give you time to purchase power as needed. You choose how you are notified.
That is entirely up to you. The beauty of the Westar Prepaid program is that it fits your budget. You can buy enough electricity to last until payday, or you can buy enough to last several months. The choice is yours.
Payments can be made from your checking or savings account by calling our Customer Relations Center at 800-383-1183 or by visiting www.WestarEnergy.com. If you wish to pay with your credit or debit card, you can also do that via our website or by calling Bill Matrix at 800-584-1252. If you prefer to make a payment in person with cash, just visit one of our approximately 90 authorized payment locations. Please have your Westar Energy account number with you to make the payment.
In such cases, payment must be received within 72 hours to avoid disconnection. You can still pay by phone or online.
If funds in your account run out, you will be notified by phone, text or email that your service is pending disconnection. If no payment is received within 72 hours, your electric service will be disconnected. You can recharge your account at any time, day or night, by phone, online or at a pay station, and service will be restored in as few as 30 minutes but no more than 24 hours. A $5 reconnection fee will be charged.
No. You will receive the same reliable electric service. Since you will receive low balance and pending disconnect notifications prior to disconnect, you will know if you are experiencing a power outage or have run out of money on your Westar Prepaid account. And, if you have a power outage, our crews will still be on standby, ready to assist you. To report power outages, call us at 1-800-LIGHTKS (800-544-4857).
Absolutely. If at any time you decide not to continue as a Westar Prepaid customer, you may return to Westar’s post paid program. A deposit may be required to reactivate your traditional billing.
