With almost 90 electric or hybrid vehicles in our fleet, we are achieving cost efficiencies and giving employees a first-hand driving experience they can share with friends and neighbors.
Westar Energy is investing in clean, advanced technologies throughout its business processes. As part of this effort, Westar has joined the Edison Electric Institutes’ initiative to lead technology adaptation and develop infrastructure for electric vehicle use. Westar is accepting EEI's challenge to invest 5% of new vehicle funds on electric vehicle technology. Almost 10% of our vehicles are hybrid electric vehicles or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, over 5% of which are plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. Westar is also a founding member of the Central Kansas Clean Cities Coalition which aims to expand the use and availability of alternative fuels and advanced vehicle technologies in Kansas. This is one of the nearly 100 coalitions in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Clean Cities initiative.
