The Average Payment Plan can help reduce your high bills in summer and winter and make it easier to manage your monthly bill. The plan allows you to pay a monthly bill on the average cost of your most recent 12-month period. The amount due may vary slightly month to month but if you were signed up for Average Payment, your bill for this month would have only been Label and then every bill in the coming months would be close to that same amount. It’s not too late to sign up for your Label bill.
For more information about the Average Pay Program and how it can help reduce high bill surprises, visit our Average Payment Plan page

Demands on Westar Energy's power delivery system are the highest from June through September, when many customers are using their air conditioners. At these times, we may cycle participants' central air conditioners or heat pumps in a coordinated effort to reduce energy demand. During that time your thermostat will display "SAVINGS," your compressor will operate about 50 percent of its normal run time (e.g., on for 15 minutes, off for 15 minutes), and the system fan will continue to circulate air throughout your home or business. These cycling events will normally last about four hours or less, and will occur between noon and 8 p.m. Cycling events will occur infrequently and only on weekdays - never on weekends or holidays.
You have complete control over how your thermostat is programmed, except during cycling events. Westar Energy cannot change your thermostat settings and will only cycle your air conditioner or heat pump when absolutely necessary. During a cycling event, you will not be able to change your thermostat settings. If you decide to no longer participate in the Westar Energy WattSaver program, we will reinstall your original thermostat, or another replacement, at no cost to you.
You will also be able to program your thermostat through any computer connected to the Internet. This programming feature offers you additional convenience and flexibility. For example, if you're on vacation and forgot to adjust your thermostat before you left the house, just access the Internet through any computer at your convenience to change your settings.
By reducing your energy consumption, you reduce the amount of emissions released in the atmosphere. Reducing the demand for electricity assists Westar Energy in making the most efficient use of its current power plants while giving us time to explore future sources of generation.
No. Westar Energy cannot change your settings and will only cycle your air conditioner or heat pump when absolutely necessary.

No. You will not be able to change your thermostat settings during a cycling event. Please note, you may choose to not participate in one cycling event per month. You may opt out of a specific day via your online programming page or by calling WattSaver at 888-753-6523. We will not cycle on weekends or holidays.
On the day a cycling event is planned, Westar Energy will post a message on the WattSaver Website by 11 a.m. Your personal online programming page will include not only the cycling message but also cycling history.
The word "SAVINGS" will appear on the top line of the thermostat's display screen during a cycling event.
Possibly, depending on a number of factors (e.g., outside temperature, cooling system efficiency, insulation, etc.), your temperature may increase slightly. However, most participants will not notice a change.
No. You may choose to not participate in one cycling event per month.
No. The frequency and duration of cycling is within standards developed by the heating and cooling industry. If you have additional questions, please call WattSaver at 888-753-6523.

WattSaver is a voluntary program. However, we strongly encourage participants to commit to the WattSaver program for three years. After three years, you will own the thermostat even if you decide to withdraw from the program. Westar will provide free maintenance for thermostat replacement only, and customer service for your thermostat for as long as you remain in the program and/or the program is offered by Westar.
The WattSaver thermostat should remain with the property when you move. When a new owner/tenant moves in, we will send them a letter to explain the WattSaver program. Please leave the old non-WattSaver thermostat with the property (if not previously recycled) in case the next owner/tenant does not want to participate in the program.
No. Since Westar stopped new or replacement installations for the WattSaver program, you will not be able to get a WattSaver thermostat installed at your new address.

Yes. The real-time clock should not require adjustment since it automatically updates for daylight-saving time and stores all date/time information.
Not unless the battery is dead. A back up, coin-cell battery maintains the thermostat clock and program. The purpose of the battery is to hold the time in the event of power interruption. If the battery is dead or removed when power is restored, the user will have to re-enter the time. We recommend replacing the battery annually.
Westar Energy WattSaver customers can access their personal online programming page from any computer that has Internet access.
One reason why it may appear that the WattSaver thermostat is not adhering to the programmed schedule is because it has a comfort feature (called adaptive recovery) that allows it to "learn" when and for how long the heating or cooling system must operate to reach your desired settings at programmed times for the most cost-efficient operations. If you have any questions about this feature, please call the WattSaver hotline toll-free at 888-753-6523.
A problem has occurred with the thermostat's connection and may be causing a problem with the settings. Please call the WattSaver hotline toll-free at 888-753-6523.
Westar will not know your thermostat's settings. You always have complete control over how your thermostat is programmed, except during cycling events.
No. If you have changed your settings on the thermostat itself (i.e., at the wall), these changes are not communicated back to your online programming website because the paging signal is only one-way. You must change your settings online to match those on the thermostat itself.
No. Westar will no longer be adding new participants to the WattSaver program.
Yes. For current WattSaver participants, we will service WattSaver thermostats for replacement only. As a WattSaver participant, your toll-free customer service line and your online energy management system remain available for you. We will continue to provide excellent customer service.
No. If you find at some point that your WattSaver needs to be replaced, instead of replacing it with another WattSaver thermostat, we are prepared to offer you a different digital thermostat and install it at no cost to you.
That is correct. If replacing your WattSaver becomes necessary, you will effectively be removed from the WattSaver program at that time.
If at any time you suspect that your WattSaver is not functioning correctly, please call the Westar Energy WattSaver program at the number printed on your WattSaver thermostat, 888-753-6523. We will attempt to troubleshoot your concern over the phone, so please call when you are at the home and ready to possibly go through some simple troubleshooting steps. Usually, customers’ concerns are resolved over the phone, without needing a service appointment.
If, after this troubleshooting, we find that your concern is still not resolved; and, we find that we need to set a service appointment: We will advise you that, if your WattSaver thermostat is found to need replacement, it will not be replaced with another WattSaver thermostat.
There are several replacement options we will offer to install for you free of charge:
1) A new Honeywell Wi-Fi thermostat provided by Westar;
2) A new Honeywell non Wi-Fi thermostat provided by Westar; OR,
3) We will replace with whatever compatible thermostat that you supply at the time of your removal appointment. (This can either be a thermostat you buy or your old thermostat.)
If you choose to purchase a thermostat on your own, please make sure you purchase one that is completely compatible with your HVAC system.
If you choose to use your old thermostat, please have it readily available to our technician when he arrives. During your original WattSaver installation, our technician should have left your old thermostat for you in a white box, on or near your furnace. But, if, when you first received your WattSaver, you had us recycle your old thermostat because it contained mercury, we will offer to install for you a free programmable thermostat.
At your removal appointment, we will confirm that your non-WattSaver replacement thermostat is working upon our technician’s departure. But your replacement thermostat and its installation will not be warrantied, and will not be serviced afterward by the Westar Energy WattSaver program.
