In the past few years, the need for energy has increased in central Kansas. Recent studies of the transmission system have identified the need for a new power line connecting a new substation south of Junction City with one north of Chapman. A new line, which will also include rebuilding part of an existing line, between these two substations will help keep energy in your area and central Kansas reliable.
The map below shows the potential routes for the new power line in purple and the line that will be rebuilt highlighted in yellow. This $28-million-dollar project is part of a $66 million investment in the Chapman area.
The route must be determined before engineers can determine the correct structure types to use, but the structures will likely be:
Potential routes were developed by defining routes that would minimize adverse impacts to residents, their land, and the natural environment while providing a technically viable and cost-effective route. Input received from residents in the area will help us determine which of these routes should be selected for construction.
