The Average Payment Plan can help reduce your high bills in summer and winter and make it easier to manage your monthly bill. The plan allows you to pay a monthly bill on the average cost of your most recent 12-month period. The amount due may vary slightly month to month but if you were signed up for Average Payment, your bill for this month would have only been Label and then every bill in the coming months would be close to that same amount. It’s not too late to sign up for your Label bill.

Topeka, Kan., Nov. 10, 2016 – Early next year, any Westar Energy customer will be able to harness the sun to provide energy to their home or business. A 1 megawatt Community Solar installation will be constructed west of South Hutchinson in Reno County.
“Westar is pleased to meet our customers’ interests in having more options for renewable energy,” Mark Ruelle, president and chief executive officer, said. “With this program, any customer can now choose solar, whether they own or rent, whether their home or business is in the sun or the shade. With this addition, we’ll now have emission-free electricity equal to half the electricity needs of every home, farm, business and school we serve. Not many energy companies can make that offer.”
Westar is offering subscriptions to the community solar plant and 90 percent of them have been filled. Participants have the choice of locking in their energy price for five to 20 years, enjoying the benefit of solar with no upfront investment, no debt and no ongoing maintenance. Full details and program enrollment are available at www.WestarEnergy.com/communitysolar.
The 1 MW Community Solar installation comprises 3,400 panels and is the equivalent of about 200 average residential private solar installations.
In June, Westar Energy, the Kansas Corporation Commission Staff and Citizen Utility Ratepayers Board reached an agreement to allow construction to begin on the project as Westar Energy continues to enroll subscribing customers. Customers who choose not to participate in the optional program pay none of its costs. Construction will begin in December with the solar plant being in service during the first quarter of 2017.
