Westar Energy

Average Payment Plan

How does it work?

  • Monthly bill is based on the average of your prior 12 months of service.

  • We adjust this average each month to reflect actual usage, which means the amount due may be slightly different month to month.

  • For example, your January bill will be the average of your energy costs from February last year through January this year.

Actual Usage

Who's eligible?

  • All residential customers whose account is current (paid in full by the due date).
  • You may remain on this plan unless two or more consecutive payments are late.

What if I have moved and don't have a 12-month history?

  • The Average Payment Plan is based on the prior 12 months usage at the address of service.

  • If there is not a sufficient usage history then the average may be estimated or Westar may ask that 12 months usage be established before setting up the plan.

What if I move or my service is disconnected?

  • The customer is responsible for closing out the account and settling the difference between the actual cost of energy used and payments made.

What is the settlement balance?

  • The settlement balance is the difference in service used and the amount that has been paid.

What if my settlement balance gets too large?

  • Annually, the settlement balance is reviewed and an adjustment amount is included in your monthly average to bring the balance closer to zero.
