Storms moved through the Westar service territory again Friday night knocking out power to an additional 7,500 customers. Most were in areas where restoration work from the damaging storms early Friday morning continues. Before the new wave of storms Friday evening, Westar had brought outages down to about 6,000 customers from the storm’s peak of 38,500 early Friday morning.

The new wave of storms dealt a setback to restoration efforts. As of 10:30 a.m. Saturday, about 6,500 customers were without electricity: 5,100 in Shawnee County;  1,000 in Leavenworth County; 375 in Atchison County; and 300 in Douglas County.

Westar expects to have power restored to Topeka area customers by Sunday. For customers in Atchison and Leavenworth, where Friday night storms hit the hardest, restoration work will extend into Sunday. We expect to have power back on to customers in Lawrence and Shawnee later today.

To report a downed power line or your power is out, please call 800-LIGHT-KS.
