Area residents invited to open house to learn about project.

TOPEKA,Kan., Oct. 11, 2011 —Westar Energy will conduct an open house from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 13, at the Clay County Fairgrounds Meeting Room, 205 S. 12th, Clay Center, to meet with landowners regarding an upcoming transmission line project. The open house will give landowners the opportunity to review proposed routes for the lines as well as provide valuable input.

Westar Energy plans to build two new 115-kilovolt (kV) transmission lines to serve two new delivery points for Clay Center, one of which will be used to supply electricity to the TransCanada’s new pump station. TransCanada’s Keystone XL pipeline will transport crude oil from Alberta, Canada, to markets in the central United States.

The proposed transmission lines will be located between Westar’s Clay Center Junction Substation located at the intersection of K-15 (Navajo Road) and 9th Road and the proposed Clay Center Switching Station located on Broughton Road southeast of 17th Road; and between the proposed Clay Center Switching Station located on Broughton Road southeast of 17th Road and the proposed TC Riley Substation east of Redwood Road and south of 15th Road.

Westar plans to start construction on the project later this year or in early 2012, and the project is expected to be completed in October 2012.
