The purchase of the Spring Creek power plant provides a less expensive alternative for customers than if Westar was to construct a new facility.
- Spring Creek is a 300 Megawatt (MW) gas-fired power plant
- The plant is located in Logan County, Oklahoma
- The plant was built by ONEOK in 2001
- The plant is a natural gas-fired peaking plant, meaning it will operate for brief periods, primarily in the summer to meet growing customer demand
To make full use of the Spring Creek Plant and better serve customers, Westar Energy and OGE will construct a transmission line from Rose Hill, Kansas to a substation in Oklahoma.
