Restoration Process

The safety of our employees and the public is always our first priority. Westar Energy crews go to work to restore power as soon as it is safe to do so.

Our goal is to restore power to as many customers as we can as quickly as we can, giving priority to critical care facilities such as hospitals, fire and law enforcement.

  1. Before restoration work can begin we must make sure all hazards, such as tree limbs or other objects that are touching lines, have been cleared.

  2. As outage reports are received, we will send troubleshooters and crews to investigate and report back the cause of outage and exactly where the damage occurred.

  3. This investigation is why you may see a truck come into and leave your neighborhood with your power still not restored.

  4. We are then able to estimate how long it will take to restore power and how many customers would be affected.

  5. Using this information we prioritize work with our goal to restore power to as many customers as possible as quickly as possible.

Which lines in my neighborhood affect the most people?
