Kansas Corporation Commission

Under Kansas law, the commission oversees the rates utilities charge their customers and the service provided. It is important to understand the relationship among customers, the KCC and Westar Energy.

The mission of the KCC is to protect the public interest through impartial and efficient resolution of all jurisdictional issues. The agency regulates rates, service and safety of public utilities. It also regulates oil and gas production by protecting correlative rights and environmental resources.

The KCC sets the rates Westar Energy charges its customers. The KCC also has established billing standards for all utilities to follow such as the Cold Weather Rule.
