Residential Builder "EFFICIENCY SMART" Home Program
Requirements
1. HEATING AND COOLING - The "EFFICIENCY SMART" HOME will be heated and cooled with an energy efficiency full heat pump system.
- It will be controlled by a multistage set back thermostat
- Air distribution design will meet standards set forth by the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers.
2. WATER HEATING - The water will be heated with a high efficiency electric water heater.
- Minimum of 50 gallon capacity.
- Minimum 4500 watt heating unit.
- Water line piping will be insulated where necessary.
3. INSULATION - The minimum insulation requirements to be met include:
- R-19 insulation in floors over unconditioned spaces.
- Rigid stem wall insulation and vapor barrier on ground in crawl space.
- 2" perimeter insulation for slab construction.
- R-19 rim joist insulation in basement.
- R-13 total wall outside wall insulation (includes exterior insulation board if utilized).
- R-38 insulation in ceilings.
- 2" insulation on duct work in an unconditioned space.
- All duct work connections to be sealed with high grade metal tape or mastic.
- Double pane windows or equivalent.
- Weatherization measures including appropriate caulking, weather stripping, and poly-sealing-rough openings.
