William B. Moore
President, Chief Executive Officer and Director
Bill Moore was named president and CEO on July 1, 2007. He also serves on the Board of Directors. He rejoined Westar Energy in 2002 as executive vice preseident and chief operating officer following a brief tenure as senior managing director and senior adviser for Saber Partners, LLC. His previous years with Westar Energy began in 1978 as a finance assistant. He held numerous financial positions with the company, becoming vice president, finance in 1985, executive vice president and chief financial officer in 1998 and executive vice president and chief operating officer in 2002. In 2006 he became president and chief operating officer. He also was chairman of the board for KGE and vice president of the electric division. He received his bachelor of business administration degree from Wichita State University in 1974. He is involved on several boards of directors, including GO Topeka, Goodwill Industries of Kansas, Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the Wichita State University Foundation. He also is co-chair of Heartland Visioning.
James Ludwig
Executive Vice President, Public Affairs and Consumer Services
James Ludwig was named executive vice president, public affairs and consumer services in 2007. In 2003, he returned to Westar Energy as vice president, public affairs, and in 2006 assumed responsibility for regulatory affairs, becoming vice president, regulatory and public affairs. He joined Westar Energy in 1989 as an information specialist in corporate communications, becoming director of government affairs in 1989. He was senior director of regulatory affairs from 1995 to 2001. He received a bachelor of arts degrees in classical languages and history in 1980 from The University of Kansas. He is a board member of the Wichita Chamber of Commerce, Greater Wichita YMCA, Greater Wichita Economic Development Coalition and Catholic Charities of Wichita. He is also a member of the Edison Electric Institute's External Affairs Committee, and the Governor's Wind Working Group.

Mark A. Ruelle
Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Mark Ruelle rejoined Westar Energy in 2003 as executive vice president and chief financial officer. He served as president, Nevada Power Company, from 2001 to 2002, and senior vice president and chief financial officer from 1997 to 2001. During his previous tenure at Westar Energy, he held various financial, strategic planning and corporate development positions. He received his bachelor of arts degree in economics in 1983 and his master of arts degree in economics in 1986 from the University of North Dakota.

Doug Sterbenz
Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
Doug Sterbenz was named executive vice president and chief operating officer in 2007. He joined Westar Energy in 1997 and served in several positions in energy trading and bulk power marketing before becoming senior vice president, generation and marketing in 2001, and executive vice president, generation and marketing in 2006. Before joining Westar Energy, he was the director of power marketing for Questar Energy Trading. Sterbenz began his career in 1986 with Texas Utilities Generating Co., where he spent 11 years working in power plants. He received his bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Kansas State University in 1985 and his master of business administration degree from the University of Texas at Tyler in 1995. He is a graduate of Leadership Topeka, serves on the Management Advisory Board at the University of Kansas and is an EEI Energy Supply Executive Advisory Board member. Sterbenz also serves on the board of directors for the United Way of Greater Topeka.

Bruce Akin
Vice President, Operations Strategy and Support
Bruce Akin was named vice president, operations strategy and support in 2007. He served as vice president, administrative services from 2001 to 2007. Akin joined Westar Energy in 1987 and has served in various finance and accounting positions. He has held directorships in human resources, corporate development and internal audit. He received his bachelor of business administration, accounting, and master of business administration degrees from Washburn University. He is a graduate of Leadership Greater Topeka and serves on the CASA advisory board and the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northeast Kansas Board.

Jeff Beasley
Vice President, Corporate Compliance and Internal Audit
Since joining Westar Energy in 1982 as an accountant, Jeff Beasley has held a variety of positions related to accounting, finance and auditing. He was director, corporate finance before being named executive director, corporate compliance and internal audit in 2006. In September 2007, he was named vice president, corporate compliance and internal audit. He received his bachelor of business administration in accounting from Pittsburg State University. He is a certified internal auditor and a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors. He is on the United Way Campaign Leadership Committee, Midland Care Hospice Board and the Board for the Topeka YMCA.

Greg A. Greenwood
Vice President, Generation Construction
Greg Greenwood has held various financial roles with Westar Energy since he joined the company as a staff accountant in 1993. Before being named vice president, construction services in 2006, he was treasurer. He also has held directorships in finance, corporate finance, financial strategy and planning and analysis. He received his bachelor of business administration, accounting degree from Washburn University in 1988. He is a Leadership Greater Topeka graduate. He is on the board of directors of the Washburn University Ichabod Scholarship Fund. He is also on the Capper Foundation Easter Seals Audit Committee.

Kelly B. Harrison
Vice President, Transmission Operations and Environmental Services
Since joining Westar Energy in 1981 as an engineer, Kelly Harrison has had a variety of positions related to planning, forecasting and regulatory affairs. He was senior director, restructuring and rates before being named executive director, then vice president, regulatory in 2001. In March 2006, he was named vice president, transmission operations and environmental services. He received his bachelor of science in electrical engineering, master of science in engineering management and master of business administration degrees from Wichita State University. He is on the Marketing Advisory Board at the University of Kansas, the RMEL Board and the Board of Trustees for the Kansas Chapter of The Nature Conservancy. He is also on the Members Committee for the SPP and on the SPP Finance Committee.

Larry Irick
Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary
Larry Irick joined Westar Energy's legal team in 1999 as executive director, law. He became corporate secretary in 2000 and vice president and corporate secretary in 2001, assuming his current duties in 2003. A graduate of Emporia State University and the Duke University School of Law, Mr. Irick practiced law in the Kansas City area for 17 years before he joined Westar Energy. He is a member of the Kansas and Missouri Bar Association's and on the Douglas County Citizens Review Board.

Ken Johnson
Vice President, Generation
Ken Johnson joined Westar Energy in 2002 as executive director, engineering and maintenance services. In 2005, he was named executive director, generation, and became vice president, generation, in 2006. Between 1980 and 1999, he held various engineering positions at Texas Utilities Co., Cajun Electric Power Cooperative and Catalytic, Inc. He was TXU Corp.’s manager of maintenance services from 1999 to 2002. Johnson received his B.S. degree in zoology/physiology from Louisiana State University in 1975 and his B.S. in mechanical engineering from Louisiana State University in 1980. A member of the Society of Maintenance and Reliability Professionals, Johnson is a registered professional engineer and certified maintenance and reliability professional.
Michael Lennen
Vice President, Regulatory Affairs
Michael Lennen joined Westar Energy on July 16, 2007, as vice president, regulatory affairs. During the prior 20 years, Lennen was a partner the law offices of Adams and McCarthy and with the Morris, Laing, Evans, Brock & Kennedy, Chartered law firm in Wichita. He served as chairman of the Kansas Corporation Commission from 1983 to 1987. He has represented Westar Energy before the Kansas Corporation Commission for 15 years as outside legal counsel. He is a graduate of Southwestern College in Winfield and earned his law degree from Washburn University School of Law. He serves on the board of trustees of the Independence Charitable Trust and Southwestern College, where he chairs its Student Development Committee. Lennen is also on the boards of directors for the Topeka Symphony Orchestra and the Brown Foundation.

Peggy S. Loyd
Vice President, Customer Care
Peggy Loyd joined Westar Energy in 1979 as an assistant auditor. During her tenure with Westar Energy, she has served in a variety of positions in auditing, marketing, strategic planning and financial services. Before assuming her current position, she was vice president, corporate compliance and internal audit. She received her bachelor's degree in accounting and business administration from Wichita State University. Ms. Loyd is a participant with the Kansas Community Leadership Institute (KCLI) and Wichita Insight. |

Tony Somma
Vice President, Treasurer
Tony Somma has held various financial roles at Westar Energy since he joined the company in 1994 in corporate development. Following employment with Protection One, Inc., where he served as chief financial officer and senior vice president, finance and administration between 1999 and 2001, he returned to Westar as executive director, financial and strategic planning, generation and marketing. In 2006, he was named treasurer and in 2009, he was named vice president, treasurer. Before joining Westar, Somma held various accounting and corporate development positions at Aquila Energy between 1998 and 1994. He received his MBA from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1994 and his BBA, accounting major, from Bellevue University in 1988. A certified public accountant, Somma is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Association of Financial Professionals and Financial Executives International.

Leroy P. Wages
Vice President, Controller
Leroy Wages began his career with Westar Energy in 1977 as a rate analyst. He has served in various leadership positions, including five years as assistant controller, before becoming senior director of corporate strategy then controller. He received a bachelor of business administration, accounting degree from Washburn University in 1973.

Caroline A. Williams
Vice President, Distribution Power Delivery
Caroline Williams joined Westar Energy in 1987 as a customer billing coordinator. She has managed a variety of customer service-related areas, including walk-in services, training and account services, customer relations and call centers. She became executive director then vice president of customer service in 1999 and 2000, respectively, becoming vice president of customer care in 2001. She received her bachelor of science degree in human resources and her master's degree in human resources/organizational development from Friends University. She serves on several boards, including The Sunflower Foundation, Via Christi Foundation and United Way of the Plains. She is a member of the Edison Electric Institute Customer Service Committee, Kansas Health Foundation Fellows, American Association of Blacks in Energy, and the Wichita and Topeka Chambers of Commerce. In 2004 she was included in Women Who Mean Business and Wichita Business Journal Women in Business. She is a graduate of 2005 Leadership Kansas. |
