Youth hunts have been held annually at Jeffrey Energy Center, 45 minutes northwest of Topeka, since 1998.
Hunts are for whitetail deer during the early and late rifle season, for turkey during the first three weeks of Spring season, and for mourning dove over Labor Day Weekend.
Who are hunts for?
- Hunts are for youth who have never harvested game.
- An adult mentor is required to accompany the youth, no hunting license or hunter safety certificates are required for youth or mentors.
- Hunts are designed for youth with little or no hunting experience.
- Due to the high number of applicants, it is hoped that experienced mentors will seek opportunities for their youth outside of this program.
