Youth Hunts

Youth hunts have been held annually at Jeffrey Energy Center, 45 minutes northwest of Topeka, since 1998.

Hunts are for whitetail deer during the early and late rifle season, for turkey during the first three weeks of Spring season, and for mourning dove over Labor Day Weekend.

Who are hunts for?
  • Hunts are for youth who have never harvested game.

  • An adult mentor is required to accompany the youth, no hunting license or hunter safety certificates are required for youth or mentors.

  • Hunts are designed for youth with little or no hunting experience.

  • Due to the high number of applicants, it is hoped that experienced mentors will seek opportunities for their youth outside of this program.

About the hunt
  • This program is sponsored by volunteers from the Westar Energy Green Team and supported by Jeffrey Energy Center.

  • Deer and turkey hunts are conducted from enclosed blinds. Rifles or shotguns are available for borrowing.

  • Guides for youth are experienced with both hunting and working with youth.

  • Harvesting success rates are high.

Slots are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis and are limited by blind and volunteer guide availability, so sign up early!

To sign up, contact Mike Nolan, by E-mail or call him at (785) 217-6257.
